On January 25, Los Mochis, Sinaloa, welcomed a visit from international blueberry and nutrition consultant Fernando Diez.
In addition to visiting several farms, Fernando brought together more than 30 people at the Fiesta Inn hotel in that city to give a technical talk on “Biostimulation Strategies for Potted Blueberries.”
For more than 2 hours, Fernando shared his experience and practical cases with the crop, with an emphasis on real projects at farms in Peru and Chile.
Attendees learned about the best strategies and tools for:
- Reduced photosynthetic capacity
- Hormonal management
- Metabolic slowdown
- Fruit filling
THE BLUEBERRY INDUSTRY TODAY
One of the main conclusions is that the blueberry industry has become a business of efficiency, and to achieve it in operations and production, integrating rigid pot technology and substrates tailored to agronomic needs, combined with a biostimulation strategy, helps us be more efficient in our fertilizer applications and disease prevention. Investing in technology means preventing bigger problems in farm management (the goal is to avoid, as much as possible, herbicides that put our crop at risk).
The talk was attended by the leading blueberry-producing companies in Sinaloa, as well as people from Ciudad Obregón interested in entering the business.
Fernando Diez is a founding partner of Nutraktis I+D, a leader in Active Nutrition. He is internationally recognized as a Technical Advisor on nutrition, irrigation, plant health programs, cultural management programs, and production in crops such as table grapes, strawberries, and blueberries for companies in Chile, Peru, India, and Mexico, among others.
