In this blueberry project, we implemented a complete hydroponic solution for one of our grower partners in San Quintín, in the state of Baja California. The solution consists of a white 27-liter rigid pot (POTHU CC 27), coconut fiber substrate (FIBERMIX 70/30), a gutter, and ground cover netting.
We chose a white pot given the climate conditions (ranging from 14 – 31 C) and the solar radiation that persist in the area, with the goal of keeping the substrate cooler (a white pot lowers substrate temperature by approximately 6 C). To address the limited water availability, we designed a coconut fiber substrate mix with a particle size that promotes greater retention of moisture and fertilizers (more coco dust in the upper part), without overlooking the importance of drainage for this crop, which is favored by the conical bottom design of our PotHu 27 pot.
This leachate is finally drained through the gutter, and up to 30% of the nutrient solution is recovered. The solution we have developed together with the grower is a sustainable option that minimizes the use of water resources and fertilizers, while achieving maximum plant development and fruit yields.
Improve your crops and the future of the planet!
